How to start your fitness journey To most beginners, the gym can be quite an intimidating place. Many people feel like they will be judged at the gym for how they use the equipment or for being inexperienced, however that anxiety will disappear as you gain confidence and knowledge in the gym.
Set your goals
When first starting out, it is very important that you think about what you want to accomplish with your time spent working out. Whether its losing weight, building muscle or just getting more toned. Having these goals set is a great way to motivate yourself to stay accountable.
Make a schedule
Another great way to motivate yourself is by creating a workout schedule, by doing this you are establishing a routine that will help you to not overwork yourself, especially when it comes to trying new exercises.
Aim for a balanced diet
Getting fit is never just one small change, it is a complete lifestyle change. It is a combination of exercising and eating healthy. Diets may help you lose weight initially, but rarely bring long term results as most fad diets are impossible to maintain and lead to binge eating. When trying to lose weight, fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables, then divide the other half into two quarters, one composed of grain and the other of protein. Healthy grains include things like, brown rice and whole wheat pasta. Healthy proteins include foods like lean chicken, turkey and egg as they are low in fat and high in protein.
Start small If you haven’t worked out in a while, it is important to avoid exercises that are too intense as you will lose motivation to continue on your fitness journey. Instead, begin with low intensity workouts that include slower and more controlled movements like Yoga or Pilates. If you are interested in weight training, start off with lighter weights and if you are unsure, it’s a great idea to work with a trainer as they can provide you with some expert advice.
Everyone’s journey is different but with good goals and routines set, you will be on your way to a healthier lifestyle before you know it.
